Hyderabad: Ms M. Vijayashanthi, Medak MP, inaugurated the historic launch of the UIDAI (Aadhaar) Enrollment Centre at Siddipet head post office on Friday. The launch at Siddipet marks the entry of India Post as the first Central government department to become a Registrar for UIDAI. Siddipet Head Post Office joins the elite club of Post Offices in the country to offer enrolment services of Aadhaar number.
The Enrollment Center will operate from 10 am to 5 pm on all working days. The facility offers residents to enroll themselves by furnishing demographic and biometric details to get the unique identity and Aadhaar number to be given by UIDAI.
The MP appreciated the partnership between 156 years old India Post and the UIDAI and expressed hope that the India Post with its newly added Aadhaar facility would help the 30,31,875 population of Medak district in a phased manner.
Mr Farooq Hussain, MLC, appealed to the residents to take interest in UID and obtain Aadhaar numbers for getting various benefits from the State and Central governments, besides using the same as unique proof based on biometric information.
Dr P V S Reddy, Director of Postal Services, Hyderabad Region, has informed that the UIDAI (Aadhaar) Enrollment Centers at Post Offices are being extended to 15 more Head Post Offices in the Region by July 5. He also briefly explained about the enrollment procedure at Post Office and advantages. The residents need to go to the nearest Post Office Enrolment Center to register for an Aadhaar card. The resident primarily needs to carry Proof of Address, Proof of Identity and date of birth certificate. Every resident of India can get UID number irrespective of age, sex, class and caste at free of cost. A 12 digit Unique Identity Number called “Aadhaar” will be received by the residents by post in 60 to 90 days after enrolment.
Ms Vijayashanti, Mr T. Harish Rao, MLA, Mr Farooq Hussain and a few residents enrolled themselves for issue of Aadhaar number at Post Office and were given Enrolment ID receipts as a token of their successful enrolment by Dr P V S Reddy, Director of Postal Services, Hyderabad Region.
Mr P. Radha Krishna, Superintendent of Post Offices, Medak Postal Division, officers and staff of Postal Department, representatives of Messrs IL&FS, various public representatives and residents participated in the function.
