Kadapa: The Chief Electoral officer Mr Bhanvar Lal made it clear that all necessary steps were being initiated and huge police force was being deployed to conduct the Kadapa and Pulivendula by-elections in a free and fair manner and without any bias.
Talking to the media here on Thursday, Mr Bhanvar Lal said that he requested the Centre for additional forces. All the steps have been initiated on the working of EVMs without giving scope for any doubts, he said and added that he will accept the complaints through SMS if any regarding violation of election code by the Candidates. He also said that the election commission was setting up toll free number (1965) in the election commission office from April 12 to enable people to lodge complaints. The by-elections should be held with the usage of election identity cards, he added.
Mr Bhanvar Lal earlier convened a meeting with the various political parties’ leaders. Many leaders lodged complaints with him. The YSR Congress Party leaders wanted the election officer to concentrate on problematic areas in seven Assembly constituencies under Kadapa Lok Sabha seat. They also urged Mr Bhanvar Lal to initiate steps to ensure that the irregularities committed by the ruling party leaders in the recently concluded MLC elections were not repeated.. (NSS)
