Annamacharya Vardhanti Fete Begins

Tirumala: The 508th death anniversary celebrations of Tallapaka Annamacharya, who composed and sang 32,000 psalms in praise of Lord Venkateshwara of Tirumala began on a grand scale on Thursday.

In this connection, special devotional programmes were being organised at Tirumala, Tirupati, Tallapaka (birthplace of Annamacharya), Devuni Kadapa and Tiruchanoor. Lord Malayappa Swamy, accompanied by His Consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi, left the Tirumala temple at 7 am and reached Narayanagiri garden in a procession through the four Mada streets. Sapthagiri Sankeertana Goshtidanam was performed from 8 am to 10 am.

The Governor, Mr E S L Narasimhan, his wife and Ahobhila Mutt chief Sri Shatagopa Narayana Yateendra Mahadesikan Swamy participated in the function. On the occasion, the kin of Tallapaka Annamacharya were felicitated. Music, dance and literary programmes will be conducted at Mahati auditorium of Tirupati Annamacharya Kala Mandiram from Thursday to April 6. Similarly, programmes will be conducted at Tiruchanoor Asthana Mandapam till April 2.

The Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanam has constructed Tallapaka Dhyana Mandiram, 108ft high Annamayya idol in Devuni Kadapa. (NSS)
