The Congress MPs from Telangana, not only defied the party whip by abstaining from attending the opening day of the winter session of Lok Sabha on Thursday but also squatted before the main gate demanding formation of separate Telangana state.
The Congress which heading the UPA Government has issued a whip to all its members to be present in the House in view of the combined Oppositions move to corner and push the government to the wall on various issues including the FDI issue.
However he Telangana Congress MPs, who are in a quandary following mounting pressure from the people of their respective constituencies besides safeguarding their own political career decided to abstain on the opening day of the session and instead make their voice heard for creation of a separate Telangana state.
Accordingly the MPs, including Vivek, Madhu Yashki, Ponnam Prabhakar, Manda Jagannanda, Gutta Sukender Reddy, Rajaiah and other squatted before the main gate of parliament, displayed placards and raised slogans for a separate state and introduction of bill in parliament.
The agitating T Congress MPs received a morale booster in the form of a support extended by the former Union Minister Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav who called on them and wished success.
Earlier the Lok Sabha passed a condolence resolution mourning the sudden and unexpected demise of TDP’s politburo member Yerran Naidu, a former member of the House, in a road accident recently. The House placed on r3ecord the services rendered by the departed leader and conveyed its deep felt condolences to the members for the bereaved family.
The Lok Sabha also grieved over the tragedy that struck A.P. in the form a Neelam cyclone which had left behind a trail of death and destruction. The House condoled the loss of deaths in the cyclone and conveyed its deep felt sympathies to the bereaved families. ( NSS ).
