Australian devotee killed in mishap in puttaparti

Puttaparthi: An Australian devotee of Bhagwan Sri Satya Sai Baba was killed in a road accident near Puttaparti on Monday.

Ms Mary Paul, a devotee from Australia, rushed to India on hearing that Baba was no more. Her vehicle was hit by a speeding bus as she was proceeding to Puttaparthi. She was instantaneously killed.

Meanwhile, millions are thronging Puttaparthi to have a last darshan of Bhagwan Baba, who went to his heavenly abode on Sunday. There are reports of several people dying on hearing that their God was no more.

One Narayanamma, a resident of the Jendamanu street of Puttaparti and an ardent devotee of the Baba suffered cardiac arrest on hearing the news of the demise of Baba and died on Sunday. Reports of several other such incidents are also pouring in on Monday.

One Guttula Mangamma of Settibalija Nagar in Ravulapalem of East Godavari district died of heart attack on the same day after TV channels broke the news of Baba’s death. Another devotee Lakkireddy Venkata Reddy also died of heart attack in Pulipadu under Mundlamuru mandal of Prakasham district. A report from Narsapur of Krishna district said one Pasupuleti Rani died on hearing the news of Baba’s death.

Police are finding it difficult to control the devotees who are anxious to watch their God for one last time. The South Central Railway is running four special trains from Secunderabad, Kachiguda and Vijayawada while a special train would be leaving later for Puttaparti from Visakhapatnam. The Karnataka government which has declared two days of mourning is also running special buses from various places to Puttaparthi. (NSS)
