Hyderabad, Feb.6 (NSS): The Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee, while demanding further increase in the existing auto fares, Rs 14 minimum and Rs 8 per Kilometre, has announced that the they would gherao the Police, RTA and Weights and Measurements departments when they launch the special drive against the auto drivers from February11.
In a media release, the JAC convenor, Mr Amanullah Khan stated that the auto drivers would take the officials to the nearest Petrol or LPG filling stations and would insist upon them to provide the fuels at the rates prevailing on December 14 last year, the day on which the existing auto fares were revised by the State government. He also said that besides, the auto drivers would also take the checking staff to the centres where the overload sharing autos are being run illegally in twin cities without operating fare meters and insist upon them to seize these those law breaking autos first.
Mr Khan also stated that they had earlier met the Transport Commissioner, Mr Prem Chandra Reddy and presented him a representation requesting him not to press meter re- calibration orders unless the existing fares are increased further, but it fell on his deaf ears.
Mr Khan alleged that the officials were treating the sharing auto drivers as if their own sons-in-law and not taking any action against such illegal act. He said that this was badly affecting the business of metered auto drivers and hence, appealed to the State government to ban sharing autos in the Greater Hyderabad in the larger interest of nearly two lakh metered auto drivers. He further warned that they would be left with no other option but to launch an indefinite auto bandh during the ensuing Assembly sessions, if the officials failed to accede to their demands. (NSS)
