Battle Royale between YSR Kin in Kadapa

Hyderabad: It appears that by-elections to the Pulivendula Assembly and Kadapa Lok Sabha constituencies would be the field for Battle Royale between the kin of the late Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. The by elections would decide who the people think were the real descendents or rightful claimants to take the credit for what YSR had done during his tenure.

If the Congress high command fields Y S Vivekananda Reddy, brother of late YSR as its candidate in Pulivendula Assembly Constituency, it may spark serious family feud as YSR’s wife Mrs Vijayamma would be seeking re-election as the candidate of the newly formed YSR Congress party of her son Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The well enacted drama enacted by Mr, Vivekandana Reddy in the Legislative Assembly by expressing his anger at those criticizing his late brother, was strengthening the speculations on his candidature for the Pulivendula seat. Though Viveka has expressed regrets over his roughing up the TDP members, Mr. Vivekandana Reddy made it a point in the speech to claim that he has worked to make Pulivendula Constituency as stronghold of the Congress. His remarks show a clear intention of sending signals to the people that he had a role in the development of the party in the Constituency. To get sympathy of the YSR supporters, he has dramatized the situation and said his brother YSR was like God to him and now his position was like Lakshmana without Rama.

Mr. Y S Vivekananda was also trying to get the Congress ticket for the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency for his son-in-law, against Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.

There can be no doubt that the May 8 by-elections would be the first major test of strength for Jagan. The Jagan Group has already come out with a plan to ensure the victory of their leader in the by-election with a better majority than he got in the last elections.

According to the sources, the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was also contemplating to field Mr. Mysoora Reddy, a formidable leader of the district against Mr Jagan. Their game plan is that they would gain this time through split of the Congress votes between the original congress and the YSR Congress led by Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy. The TDP also is keen on using the poll field to campaign about the corruption during the YSR regime. It wants to aim its guns on both the Congress and YSR Congress of Jagan.(NSS)
