Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive Member and former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya today demanded that the Andhra Pradesh Government hold a high level inquiry into the Sri Bhagyalakshmi Temple issue. Addressing a press conference here, Mr Dattatreya expressed his happiness over the implementation of the High Court orders to maintain a status-quo as on October 31. The BJP senior leader alleged that his party wanted to celebrate Diwali festival at Bahgyalakai Temple but the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) was targeting them claiming that they were trying to take up the expansion work at the temple. He alleged that police had arrested party leaders and activists yesterday when a rally was taken by them for pressing for implementation of the High Court orders but it did not take any action against the MIM leaders who were trying to disturb the peace and communal harmony, especially in the Old City. Mr Dattatreya alleged that the City Police was acting at the behest of MIM, which was deliberately hurting the sentiments of Hindu community. The BJP leader also alleged that the MIM leaders were blackmailing even Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Political parties like Telugu Desam Party, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, YSR Congress Party and Congress parties had not responded so far even after violent incidents took place during the last one week.

Mr Dattatreya charged the parties with not behaving like secular parties and instead acting as pseudo secular. The parties should stop forthwith the vote bank politics, he said.
