Centre Stops Kakarapalli Thermal Project

New Delhi: The Centre has ordered for stopping of the East Coast Thermal power plant in Kakarapalli of Srikakulam district on Tuesday.

This was announced by the Union Environment Minister, Mr Jairam Ramesh, in Rajya Sabha when the incident of firing came up in the House. The minister told the House that the plant management has not followed Environmental rules. He has ordered for an inquiry into the whole matter. He said the plant did not acquire environmental permissions.

He also informed the agitated members that he would take a decision on the plant by the evening. He said for the present, he was ordering for stopping of plant works. (NSS)
