Hyderabad: The TDP Chief Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed sadness over the suicide of Aketi Venkateswara Rao (40), a tenant farmer of Bhattupalem under Bhimunipalli Panchayat of East Godavari district.

In a statement here on Sunday, he said such incidents were occurring because of the lackadaisical attitude of the government despite farmers voluntarily declaring crop holiday in one lakh acres of the fertile Konaseema region. He said the government, instead of holding discussions with the farmers and restoring their confidence, was further troubling them by foisting false police cases against them He said the police have foisted a case on the farmers of Bhimunipalli simply because they were agitating for their genuine rights. He has alleged that even the deceased Venkateswara Rao was facing such a case. He said farmers were loosing their confidence because of such measures and were resorting to suicides.

Extending his sympathies to the family members of Venkateswara Rao, Mr. Naidu has demanded the government to extend all necessary help to them.
