Chiranjeevi to be made CLP Deputy Leader

It is learnt that the Congress leadership has decided to make K. Chiranjeevi, who has merged his PRP in Congress, as Deputy Leader of the CLP, after completing the formalities to merge the party in the Assembly also.

Technically the merger of PRP was not completed in the Assembly. When it is completed, Chiranjeevi would become an ordinary member of the ruling party and would have to sit in the back benches of the House. It is learnt that it was because of this problem that the Speaker Nadendla Manohar had not completed the procedure formally in the last session.

The first time MLAs would be allotted back benches in the Assembly by tradition. If the merger process is completed, as a first-time member Chiranjeevi would be allotted a seat in the back benches. It is being said that Congress has decided to make him Deputy Leader of the Legislature Party, so that he could occupy a front seat and be a prominent leader of the party instead of being just an ordinary member.

When K Rosaiah was chief minister, J Geeta Reddy was made Deputy Leader of the CLP, as he was a member of the Legislative Council. Now however, Chiranjeevi is being made the Deputy Leader, so that he would get a respectable position.

Assembly budget session starts on February 13. Governor ESL Narasimhan would address the joint session of the legislature on that day. It is being said that Chiranjeevi would be appointed Deputy Leader before the commencement of the Assembly session.
