Former AP Congress Committee president D Srinivas and state minister for major and medium irrigation, P Sudharshan Reddy are said to be competing for control over the district administration.

A source said that Srinivas, who has been out of mainstream politics after completion of his tenure as PCC chief for the second time, is gradually losing his hold on the district administration.

However, Sudharshan Reddy, the only Congress MLA and minister from the district, and close aide to AP CM N Kiran Kumar Reddy, is gradually rising in the ranks and has managed to move officials appointed by Srinivas, added the source.

Srinivas’ slide was seen to begin with the surrender of former Indira Kranthi Patham project director, V Dayasagar, who was arrested for misappropriating government funds. This was followed by district rural development agency (DRDA) assistant project officer, K Govardhan, who was shifted out of the district after allegations against him.

Deputy executive engineer, Road and Buildings department, Hanumantha Rao was also transferred to Thandur of Ranga Reddy district few months ago.

However, the latest case is that of Revenue Division Officer (RDO), Nizamabad, M Narsingha Rao and Tehsildar of Nizamabad mandal, Ravi Kumar, who have been asked to go on extended leave, a revenue department source said.

It is learnt that Srinivas tried to intervene in all the cases but failed in his endeavours to prevent the transfers. TOI
