Kadapa: The Congress leadership is reported to have said a firm ‘no’ to agriculture minister YS Vivekananda Reddy’s plea for a ticket for his son-in-law N Rajasekhara Reddy to contest the Kadapa Lok Sabha byelection.
Since defeating YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on his home turf is going to be a challenge, the party leadership is looking for a strong candidate to take on the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s son in the electoral battle.

Vivekananda Reddy made it clear that his son-in-law was not in the race for the ticket reportedly after he got this hint from the leadership.

The Congress is said to be looking at TDP leader and barytes exporter Kandula Rajmohan Reddy as the possible candidate against Jagan. According to sources, some Congress leaders had broached the issue with Rajmohan Reddy who is yet to take a decision whether to leave the company of Chandrababu Naidu. The other choice is Badvel former MLA DC Govind Reddy. The Congress wants to persuade Govind Reddy to come back from the Jagan Mohan Reddy camp.

If not a win, the Congress wants to at least cut down the winning margin of Jagan drastically from the one lakh votes in the 2009 polls, so that it could go to the town saying Jagan is not as hot a leader as his managers are making him out to be.

Rajmohan Reddy lost the Kadapa Lok Sabha election on the TDP ticket in 1996 with a narrow margin of 5,000 votes against YS Rajaskhara Reddy.

Rajmohan Reddy’s family was originally from the Congress stock. Congress leaders, particularly DL Ravindra Reddy (minister) and G Veera Sivareddy (legislator, Kamalapur) are convinced that if Rajmohan Reddy is there in the fray, there might be a surprise. The Congress leaders have scored a measure of success when they managed to get back Proddatur former MLA N Varadarajula Reddy (Proddatur is a part of Kadapa LS seat) back into the party fold from Jagan’s camp.

As far as Pulivendula is concerned, Vivekananda Reddy is keen to contest the Assembly segment as his MLC term is nearing the end and he is not sure of a win if the Congress nominates him for the Kadapa Local Body constituency for the Council, since Jagan has won over a majority of the electorate to his side.
