Chittoor/Kadapa: The YSR Congress Party president and Kadpa Mp, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday alleged that the State government lacked sincerity and commitment to uplift the poor people, particularly farmers in the State. He felt that counseling was required to the government, but not to the farmers on the suicides of the tillers.
Leading “Sagu Poru” at Chittooor Collectorate, Mr Jagan said that the farmers were opting to commit suicide rather than cultivating crops due to a plethora of problems. Stating that there was no need to give counseling to the farmers as felt by the rulers, he felt that actually counseling was required for the State government, which was ignoring the issues being faced by the farmers.
“Though the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy and the Leader of Opposition, Mr Nara Chandrababu Naidu, belong to Chittoor district, the duo was not bothered about the pathetic condition of the farmers in their home district”, he charged.
Charging the Congress governments at the Centre and in the State with negligent attitude towards the farmers’ issues, Mr Jagan said the State government should give an explanation to the tears in the eyes of farmers. The YSR Congress Party would always be behind the farmers, he assured.
Referring to hardships being faced by the farmers in getting seeds of Bt Cotton, he alleged that the government has colluded with the seed companies which were producing Bt Cotton seed. Out of 90 lakh packets of seed, the government supplied only 40 lakh packets to the farmers. The price of 30 kg grountnut bag has come down to Rs 300 from Rs 750, he pointed out.
Coming down heavily on the Congress and the TDP, Mr Jagan reminded that the TDP Chief, Mr Nara Chanrababu Naidu tried to pull down YSR government, which brought about a golden period in the State, by tabling no confidence motion. He also questioned as to why Mr Chandrababu Naidu gave a notice of no confidence motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government when his party has only 90-member strength in the Assembly. He pointed out that during the special session of the Assembly, Mr Naidu had chosen not to utter a single word in the House on the farmers’ issues. He alleged that the Congress and the TDP were colluded. The people would teach a fitting lesson to the two parties whenever election were held. The Congress and the TDP candidates would not get their deposits in the next elections, he added.
Vijayamma SLAMS govt
Participating in “Sagu Poru” dharna at the Kadapa Collectorate, the Pulivendula MLA and wife of late YSR, Ms Y S Vijayamma, said that the pitiable condition of the farmers has bothered her very much. She recollected that her late husband YSR strove for the welfare of farmers and dreamt to see smile on their faces. Late YSR had launched unique programmes like Jalayagnam, crop loans waiver, subsidy seeds and fertilizers distribution to turn his dream into reality. The declaration of crop holiday by the farmers was shameful to the government. She also suggested that the government should open its eyes and strive to solve the issues of the farmers.
