Hyderabad, Feb.11 (NSS): The Election Commission has poured water on the enthusiasm of the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy to show his strength in Kadapa district, the native district of his rival Mr Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, by mobilizing a huge gathering of people to the Rachabanda programme planned for today.
The Election Commission has issued orders that the Chief Minister and the Ministers should not participate in the Rachchabanda programme in seven districts where the Election Code for MLC elections was in force.
Actually, the Chief Minister was scheduled to participate in the rachabanda at Duvvuru in Kadapa district today evening, and stay at Kadapa for the night. He also planned to inspect Galeru- Nagari Flood Canal works and progress of Gandikota tunnel in the district. But, with the orders of the Election Commission, the Chief Minister’s visit to Kadapa district was cancelled.
The Congress leaders of Kadapa district who were opposing Mr Jagan, particularly, the Minister for Health, Dr D L Ravindra Reddy, took it as a matter of prestige to make the Chief Minister’s tour a success. They have planned to mobilize huge number of people to the Chief Minister’s programme.
Political circles were looking forward with interesting as to what message Mr Kiran Kumar reddy would send to the people in the district, majority of whom were admirers of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. Just as he faced protests from the people at Rachchabanda in some Telangana districts, he might have faced the ire of YSR supporters for his recent comments against YSR and his son.
The Chief Minister’s visit to Nellore district scheduled on Saturday also stands cancelled due to the election code. According to schedule, the Rachabanda programme concludes with Chief Minister’s participation in the programme in Nellore district on February 12
