Four killed as Janma bhumi express hits van

Nalgonda: Four persons were killed when the van in which they were crossing an unmanned level crossing was hit by the Janma Bhumi Express on Wednesday. Several others were also injured.

According to police, Ms Lakshmi Bai, MPP of Pullala Cheruvu mandal of Prakasam district was traveling with 14 of her family members when their vehicle was hit by the train at the Kundrakolu railway crossing under Damaracharla mandal of Nalgonda district. The dead included two children. The injured were rushed to the Miryalguda government hospital.

However, the South Central Railway has confirmed only two deaths. An SCR press release stated that the road vehicle (Scorpio) dashed against the engine of Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Janma Bhumi Express resulting in death of two passengers of the four wheeler.

It stated that the vehicle unauthorisedly tried to pass the track at thw Unmanned Level Crossing No. 81, situated between Kondrapol and Vishnupuram of Pagidipalli-Nadikudi section of Guntur division, ahead of the oncoming Train Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Janma Bhumi Express. In the process, the road vehicle dashed against the rear portion of the engine of the Janma Bhumi Express, the release stated, adding that prima facie, the road vehicle driver was not able to control the vehicle and dashed against the train engine.

The Divisional Railway Manager, Guntur Division with other officials rushed to the spot. However, there was no disruption of train traffic in the section due to the accident. (NSS)
