Govt Will Take All Steps To Check Violence Against Women

Hyderabad: The Minister for Women Welfare and Child Development, Mrs Sunitha Laxma Reddy, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, assured that the Government would take necessary steps to check all forms of violence against women in the State. She also made it clear that the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government would continue efforts to bring into reality late YSR’s dream of making every woman a “lakshadhikari”.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly here, Mrs Sunitha Laxma Reddy regretted that women were facing discrimination in this advanced era also. The State Government was keen on acting hard in the cases of dowry harassment, domestic violence and harassment at work places. Though the Government has taken up several women welfare schemes, there was a need to ensure strict implementation of acts brought for safety and security of women. “With the help of Home Department, my department would strive for development of women and check any sort of violence against them”, she assured.

She also pointed out that the Government has increased allocations in the budget for women welfare. With the inspiration from the President of India, Mrs Prathibha Patil and the Lok Sabha Speaker, Mrs Meera Kumar, the women ministers would work for empowerment of the women in the state, she added.

The Minister for Major Industries, Dr J Geetha Reddy also listed out the incentive and subsidies provided to encourage women industrialists in the State. The house needs to once again pass a resolution supporting women reservation bill. Stating that the women were succeeding in all sectors, she felt that the era of women was started. The women should walk shoulder to shoulder with the men, not three feet back or behind him, she added.

The Deputy Speaker, Mr Nadendla Manohar, who is in the chair, also conveyed his wishes to women on the occasion of International Women’s day. (NSS)
