Visakhapatnam: Several low-lying areas in the city were inundated following downpour during Wednesday midnight.
Though there were rains throughout the State due to the influence of the low-pressure trough, there was no rain in Visakhapatnam for the past two days. However, all of a sudden, there was a heavy down pour during the midnight. Rain water seeped into the areas adjoining the railway stations. The flood water was knee deep and entered several houses in the Railway New Colony, Subbalakshmi Nagar, Dondaparti Junction, Convent Junction and Gnanapuram areas. In several apartments, cellars were inundated and the people living in the low-lying areas spent a sleepless night.
Meanwhile, the low-pressure trough that spread from Vidarbha to South Tamilnadu through Telangana and Rayalaseema and the surface trough spread over the same areas have been moving steadily. Under their influence, rains or thundershowers would occur at some places on Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana regions, said a report from the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam, Heavy rains are also likely in some places, the forecast said.
