Tirupati: The Praja Rajyam Party Chief, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, has assured the agitating taxi drivers that he would be in the forefront in resolving their problems.
Referring to their agitation, the megastar-turned-politician said he would talk to the authorities concerned about their problems and requested them not to resort to any hasty actions.
It is learnt that Mr Chiranjeevi has called up the TTD Executive Officer, Mr Subrahmaniam, and discussed the problems of the taxi drivers with him. The taxi drivers have been agitating for permission to private vehicles to ply on the Tirumala hills. They have stopped buses and stoned some vehicles going up the holy hills.
One driver has attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat. As the situation turned tense, police have caned the taxi drivers and arrested their leaders.
