Indefinite Auto Strike From Tomorrow

Hyderabad, Feb.8 (NSS): The Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee has given a call for “indefinite auto bandh” from midnight of February 10 in Greater Hyderabad limits in protest against illegal plying of sharing autos on the city roads and demanding postponement of the proposed special drive from February 11 until the existing minimum auto fare of Rs 14 and Rs 8 per additional kilometer are increased further.

According to a press note issued by the JAC convenor, Mr Mohd Amanullah Khan, their other important demands include cancellation of traffic police e-challan system and a permanent solution to the auto parking problem. He also condemned the “double standards” of the Traffic Police and the RTA officials. He stated that while the officials were taking stern action against the metered autos, they were conveniently ignoring the overloading of sharing autos plying illegally on city roads without meters.

Mr Khan appealed to the State government to ban the movement of sharing autos in Greater Hyderabad in the interests of two lakh auto drivers who drive more than one lakh metered autos. He recalled that they met the Transport Commissioner, Mr L Premachandra Reddy, earlier and pleaded with him not to pass meter recalibration order until the existing fares were increased in view of frequent hike in petrol and LPG rates.
