Mahabubnagar: The Telugu Desam party president, Mr Nara Chandrababu Naidu, on Thursday felt that the root cause of all problems being faced by the farmers was none other than the inexperienced Chief Minister.
The former chief minister made this observation during his visit to the Market Yard at Devarakadra in the district where he interacted with farmers in an effort to elicit their problems. The State government has paid no attention to the problems of the farmers, he said, adding that the Congress government was in such a hopeless condition that it could not even procure gunny bags for the farmers and Rabies vaccine for the dog-bite victims. Mr Naidu said that the Chief Minister has no moral right to organise Rythu Chaitanya Yatras as he had left the farmers to their fate. He also called upon the farmers to agitate.
Demanding that the State government take immediate steps to solve the problems of the farmers, the Leader of Opposition squatted on the Marikal Road and expressed his resentment against the failure of the government. However, the former chief minister was taken into custody and whisked away to police station when he participated in road blockade programme at Maganur and staged a dharna. Later, he was released on personal bail.
Interestingly, differences among the TDP leaders came to the fore once again when the former minister, Dr Nagam Janardhana Reddy, kept away during the party supremo’s tour of the district. The party MLAs, Mr Kothakota Dayakar Reddy, Ms Sita Dayakar Reddy and other party leaders accompanied the former chief minister.
Earlier, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi activists made a vain attempt to stop Mr Chandrababu Naidu from visiting Devarakadra Market Yard. Demanding that Mr Naidu spell his party’s stand on Telangana State, the protestors shouted “Jai Telangana” slogans. With this, the police intervened and took them into custody. The TDP MLA, Mr Dayakar Reddy manhandled the TRS protestors.
Meanwhile, the farmers in all parts of the State organised rasta rokos and dharnas demanding that the State government help them by procuring paddy at remunerative price. The irate farmers invaded the roads following a call given by the Telugu Desam Party. Led by the TDP functionaries, the farmers organised rasta rokos and dharnas on Dhone National Highway in Kurnool district, Samarlakota in East Godavari district, Gudur National Highway in Nellore district, Singupuram National Highway in Srikakulam district.
In Gollapudi in Krishna district, the farmers took out protest rally with bullock carts. Several TDP functionaries, including Mr Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao were arrested. In Anasagaram, the irate farmers poured paddy on the main road and set it afire. The agitating TDP activists were taken into custody by the police in Mydukur of Kadapa district. The vehicular traffic in several parts of the State came to a grinding halt owing to rasta rokos and dharnas. (NSS)
