Kadapa: Mr Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, President of YSR Congress Party, this morning filed his nomination papers for the by-election to the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat. Polling in the election will be held on May 8. Mr Reddy filed the papers before the returning officer at the district collectorate here.

The YSR Congress party leader reached the Collector’s office, accompanied by a large number of supporters. Before leaving for the collector’s office, he took the blessings of his mother Mrs. Vijayalaxmi.

Mr Jagan earlier in the morning visited his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s grave at Idupulapaya family estate, paid homage to him and sought his blessings. Mrs Vijayalakshmi, who was also present there, placed the nomination papers of Mr Jagan on the grave (Samadhi) of Dr YSR and then handed over the same to Mr Jagan. Mrs Vijayalakshmi nearly broke down on the occasion, with tears in her eyes.

Large number of people from many districts of the State reached Kadapa last night itself to be present while Mr Jagan filed the nomination papers.

Speaking to the media after the nomination filing, supporters of Mr Jagan exuded confidence about his victory in the by-election. Former Minister Mrs Konda Sureskha and film actress Ms. Roja were among them. Roja asserted that there was no doubt that Mr Jagan would win the by-election with a thumping majority.

The Pulivendula Assembly candidate of YSR Congress party, Mrs Vijayalakshmi is slated to file her papers on Saturday. Both Mr Jagan and Mrs Vijayalakshmi have resigned their membership of Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly, respectively, in November last year, which necessitated the present by-elections.(NSS)
