Kadapa: Some 25 Congress MLAs strongly supporting the YSR Congress chief, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, appear to be thinking of resigning en-masse to the Assembly to create a Constitutional crisis.
Mr Jagan’s relative and a staunch supporter of the splinter group, Mr Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, has said that though the Congress party has issued show-cause notices only four of the MLAs supporting Mr Jagan, the rest were not thinking they were safe. Stating that the show-cause notices were only intended to intimidate the other supporters, he said, adding that they were not afraid of action by the party leadership or disqualification.
Another Jagan supporter, Ms Konda Surekha, has said that the party leadership was apparently afraid of taking action against other MLAs though they were all openly supporting Mr Jagan.
It is reliably learnt that the MLAs supporting Mr Jagan have planned to submit their resignations after the by-elections to the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly seats. It is said that one or two MLAs from each district would submit their resignations after the elections, forcing further by-elections in all the districts. These by-elections would serve as a mini-midterm poll and would show the strength of Jagan to the party leaders, they say. The Jagan group is trying to rope in the support of ten more MLAs of the party and efforts would be intensified after the byelections, these sources say.
Ms Konda Surekha has said that issuance of show-cause notices to Jagan group MLAs would only strengthen his position further. She said that Mr Jagan would himself take a decision on the proposal for the resignations of MLAs supporting him. She said that Mr Jagan had so far restricted them from resigning as he did not want to create a crisis to he government. She said that he was no longer obliged to save the government as the Congress leaders chose to disqualify the Jagan group MLAs. (NSS)
