YSR Congress leader Bajireddy Govardhan has said that his party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was not against Telangana.
Talking to the media here on Sunday, he said that Jagan had never talked against Telangana. He appealed to the Telangana agitators not to obstruct the visit of Jagan to Armoor.
It may be mentioned here that Jagan has proposed to go on fast at Armoor on January 10, 11 and 12, on farmers’ problems.
Govardhan said that Jagan was taking up fast only to highlight the plight of the farmers. He also criticized the government for not responding “even though the debt-ridden farmers of the Telangana region were committing suicides”. He said the government was not giving crop loans even to the tune of 10 per cent.
Govardhan has supported TRS activists obstructing TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu as he was adopting a dual policy with regard to Telangana. He said his party would respect the sentiments of the people of Telangana.
Jagan would be stepping into Telangana soil for the first time after his harrowing experience when he tried to visit Mahbubabad in Warangal district last year. Agitators had not allowed him to come out of the railway station, by raining stones at the train. Police had to arrest and send Jagan back to defuse the situation. After that, Jagan never visited Telangana. He is now visiting, after issuing a statement that he would not put up candidates of his party against those MLAs, who had resigned for the sake of Telangana.
