Now that the High Court has ordered for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate into the alleged ill-gotten assets of former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, the interesting talk in the media circles is who would go to jail first: Naidu or YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
It is more than three months since the CBI had begun investigation into the alleged illegal assets of Jagan. Now, the CBI is getting ready to begin the investigation into Naidu’s assets. Going by the seniority in the investigation, Jagan should go behind the bars first, followed by Naidu, one section of the media argues.
However, Jagan is in a hurry to see that his bete noire Chandrababu Naidu goes to jail as early as possible before his turn comes. His daily Sakshi has attacked the CBI for going slow in filing the FIR against Naidu, even after 10 days of the high court ordering the probe.
“In case of Jagan, the CBI officials acted with undue haste. While the High Court ordered the probe on August 10, the CBI filed the FIR on August 17, which is too fast an action taking into consideration three holidays during that week. But in the case of Naidu, the CBI is deliberately dodging on filing the FIR even after 10 days of the high court order, on the pretext that it had not got the copies of the judgement and that of the petitioner,” the daily said.
On the other hand, the TDP leaders are alleging that the CBI which appeared to have done a quick investigation into Jagan’s case, slowed it down after he had gone to Delhi and bargained with the Congress top brass. It was only after Jagan returned from Delhi that his mother Vijayamma had filed the petition in the high court, under the directions of the Congress high command, the TDP leaders say.
