Vijayawada: The Telugu Desam party supremo and former chief minister, Mr Nara Chandrababu Naidu, on Friday observed that while the people of Tamil Nadu voted out the corrupt DMK government, the YSR Congress Party chief, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, retained his Kadapa Lok Sabha seat by paying Rs 2,000 per each vote in the State.

Reacting to the election results while participating in the “Rythu Ranabheri” here, Mr Naidu said that liquor and money virtually flowed in Kadapa in the byelections. He also said that late YSR’s son has managed to retain his seat by distributing his ill-gotten money and flooding liquor in the parliamentary constituency. He also pointed out that while the ruling Congress and Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy vied with each other in distributing money to woo the voters, the Telugu Desam party focused on people’s burning problems and refrained from money distribution.

Lauding the people of Tamil Nadu for showing door to the corrupt M Karunanidhi government, the former chief minister congratulated the AIADMK supremo, Ms Jayalalitha for her feat. Expressing concern over the people of Kadapa succumbing to the lure of money and helping Mr Jagan to retain his seat, he observed that corruption would increase further in the country if corrupt people are elected to Lok Sabha and Assembly by spending money.

Pointing out that the awakened people of the neighbouring State taught a fitting lesson to the corrupt DMK, Mr Naidu called upon the farmers in the State to get awakened and fight corruption tooth and nail. Stating that the farmers in the State were groaning under several problems, the TDP chief reiterated that he would continue to fight for welfare of the farming community till his last breath. (NSS)
