Hyderabad, Feb.11 (NSS): The allegation of Kadapa former MP, Mr Y S Jaganmohan Reddy that the Government was neglecting Polavaram project was meaningless and it indicated the latter’s lack of knowledge, stated the Chairman of 20 Point Programme, Dr N Tulasi Reddy here.
Speaking to the media in the Secretariat today, Dr Tulasi Reddy said that the State Government was committed to complete the Polavaram project and 32 percent of the works were already completed. Out of 25 packages of the project, works of 21 packages were going on. After the death of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy also, the State Government has got Environmental clearance for Stage IV of the project. In addition, the Centre has also approved the revised estimates of the project, he pointed out.
Reminding that the State Government was fighting against the objections raised by Orissa and Chattisgarh on the project in the Court, he felt that according national status to Polavaram project was almost at the final stage.
Dr Tulasi Reddy pointed out that the earlier Rajasekhara Reddy Government has cancelled the tender of spill way work awarded to Madhucon company and the tender for Rock Fill dam given to Sreenaiah Company in August 2009, as the contracting companies violated the rules and regulations. Though the government called for open tender for the works, no one participated in the bid, he added. The Government would reopen the tender soon, he added.
He also strongly criticized the TRS and BJP for creating hurdles to the Rachchabanda programme, which was taken up to distribute white ration cards to 5.7 lakh families, sanction 4.7 lakh Indiramma houses, three lakh pensions and release Rs 430 crores to eight lakh SHG women. Creating hurdles to such people-friendly programme was a sin, he opined.
Dr Tulasi Reddy also strongly objected to linking Rachchabanda with Telangana Statehood issue. Telangana Statehood issue has to be solved at Delhi level, but Rachchabanda was state programme, he pointed out. (NSS)
