Hyderabad: Demanding the Chief Minister Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who is slated to attend the Planning Commission meeting to be held at Delhi tomorrow, to speak in favor of Pranahitha-Chevella project worth nearly Rs.36.5 thousand crores, the former minister Mr T Jeevan Reddy has said that it was the responsibility of the State government to give top priority to the project which benefits the State more.
Speaking at the Assembly media point here on Wednesday, Mr Jeevan Reddy said that the State would be benefited in a big way with the Pranahitha Chevella project, as compared to the Polavaram project. He said that 16-lakh acre new ayacut would get water if Pranahitha Chevella project was completed, whereas only 6.5-lakh acre would be stabilized with the completion of Polavaram project. He also said that the estimated cost of Polavaram was only Rs.16,000 crores and already Rs.6000 was spent on it, whereas the estimated cost of Pranahitha-Chevella project was Rs.36,500 crores. He said that the State would be benefited more if the Centre declares Pranahitha-Chevella project as national project instead of Polavaram project.
Finding fault with the State government for addressing a letter to the Centre pleading for national status to both the projects, he said that the attitude of the State government was nothing but adopting delay tactics to take up the Pranahitha-Chevella project. He alleged that it was not proper for the Chief Minister Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy to stop the launching of works of Pranahitha-Chevella project in the name of Polavaram project. He said that Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy would get good name if he favored for Pranahitha-Chevella project. He also said that the Polavaram project has many hurdles whereas the Pranahitha-Chevella project has no such hiccups.
He urged the Chief Minister to take up the project which benefits the State in a big way.
He opined that the Congress Party would stand in first place if it starts the process of creation of Telangana State after May 15. “If not, nobody knows where it stands”, he said. He said that the full credit goes to UPA government if it carved out Telangana State as it was announced a decision on Telangana on December 9, 2009. “The credit goes to the Party or government which creates separate state”, he added. He said that there was no link between creation of Telangana State and merging of KCR’s TRS Party in Congress. He opined that both were different issues and merging of TRS in Congress party depends upon the political decision of KCR. He said that the Congress Party would lose the faith of the people if it failed to carve out separate State.
The YSR Congress Party Chief Mr YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would get the support of the Telangana people if he declares his stand in favor of Telangana State. He stated that Mr Jagan has to confine to the separate State if he really feels Dr YSR’s political heir as the latter was supporter of Telangana State. (NSS)
