Mahabubnagar:Amidst elaborate police bandobust, the former minister and Kolhapur MLA, Mr Jupalli Krishna Rao, resumed his padayatra from Ayija mandal under Gadwal Assembly constituency at 6 am on Saturday.
It may be mentioned here that Mr Krishna Rao’s padayatra was stalled on May 28 when he was taken into custody by the police as a precautionary measure following stiff opposition from the Minister for Information & Public Relations, Ms D K Aruna, and consequent tension in the area. The police had also taken the latter into custody fearing vandalism by the supporters of both.
With the intervention of party leaders, Ms Aruna relented and reportedly allowed her “rival” to resume his abandoned padayatra in her constituency only for a day. However, the situation in Gadwal along the padayatra route of Mr Krishna Rao remained tense.
According to the followers of Mr Krishna Rao, the new PCC chief, Mr Botcha Satyanarayana, requested Ms Aruna not to cause obstruction to day-long padayatra of the former minister. However, the police has made elaborate bandobust as a precautionary measure.
Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Jupalli reiterated that his padayatra was not for personal gains and no politics were involved in it. He also made it clear that the padayatra was for the cause of separate Telangana State and appealed to the people of the district to take part in his padayatra in large numbers.
With Ms Aruna insisting that the Kollapur MLA should complete his padayatra in a day, changes were made in the route map of Mr Krishna Rao’s movement in all the segments of the constituency. Mr Sampath, PCC secretary and close follower of Mr Jupalli Krishna Rao, said changes were made in the route map keeping the ensuing panchayat election in view.
