New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has announced that by-elections would be held to the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies on May 8.
The by-elections were necessitated because of the resignations of Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat and his mother Vijayamma to the Pulivendula Assembly seat.
Nominations for the by-elections would be received from April 11 with the issue of election notification and the last day for receipt of nominations is April 18. The last date of withdrawal of nominations is April 21. Counting of votes will be held on May 13. The Election Code has come into force immediately with the announcement of the date of polling.
Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy and his mother Ms Vijayamma have resigned from the Congress party and also their seats on November 29 last as they were disheartened at the way the party treated them after the death of former chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. (NSS)
