Agriculture Minister Kanna Lakshmi Narayana is reportedly angry with Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy over the appointment of vice-chancellor for the N G Ranga Agriculture University.
According to a report published in a newspaper, the two have differed over the appointment. Kiran Kumar Reddy wanted to appoint Padma Raju for that post and got clearance from the Governor. However, the appointment was kept in abeyance because of the objections raised by the Advocate General. There was also a writ petition pending in the High Court challenging Padma Raju’s appointment.
It is learnt that Kanna felt that V. Nagi Reddy, principal secretary of the Agriculture department was responsible for the fiasco. It is learnt that Kanna felt that if Nagi Reddy had advised the government properly, it would have saved the government from the present embarrassment.
It may be recalled that after the Governor stopped the clearance of Padma Raju’s appointment, the High Court also stayed the appointment. He said the entire issue was mishandled by Nagi Reddy, who had not brought the issue either to his notice or that of the Chief Minister.
In this context, Kanna has asked the Chief Minister to remove Nagi Reddy from that post, said reports. However, Kiran has not taken the advice of Kanna seriously. Nagi Reddy is continuing in the same position and this has caused anger to Kanna, say sources. (NSS)
