Kiran sanctions Rs 20 Crores to Farmer Coop socities

Hyderabad: The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, has sanctioned Rs 20 crores to the local farmers Cooperative Societies towards market intervention in order to provide Minimum Support Price to tobacco farmers.

It may be recalled that a delegation of tobacco farmers, along with the Municipal Administration Minister, Mr Maheedhar Reddy, and the MP, Mr Magunta Srinivas Reddy, met the Chief Minister on Wednesday and apprise him of the plight of the tobacco farmers. The Chief Minister had directed two senior IAS officers to submit their report immediately.

As per the assurance given by the Chief Minister, orders were issued sanctioning Rs 20 crores from Market Committee funds to local farmer Cooperative Societies, out of which Rs 10 crores should be released immediately towards first instalment, the remaining should be released later.

The tobacco farmers had apprised the Chief Minister on Wednesday that if the farmer cooperative societies start procuring tobacco, national and international tobacco companies would come forward to give minimum support price. The Chief Minister fulfilled his promise.
