Hyderabad: The BJP farmers’ wing, Kisan Morcha, has decided organize ‘Dharna’ with lakhs of farmers in front of the Parliament House in support of farmers on August 3.

Speaking to the media at State BJP office here on Saturday along with the State Kisan Morhca president, Mr J Shyam Kishore, the Kisan Morcha national secretary and former Union Minister, Mr Jaising Rao Gaikwad, said the Centre has announced a meager Rs1,080 as Minimum Support Price for paddy while the farmers were spending Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,400 on the same. He said the Central Agricultural Price Committee has followed false method in counting the money spent on producing food grains. He demanded that the Centre implement the Prof. Swaminathan Committee suggestions to ensure that the farmers get justice. He also said the Pesticides Bill introduced in Parliament in 2008 was full of loopholes and alleged that it was prepared in favor of pesticide companies under their pressure.

Alleging that the Seed Bill which was introduced in the Rajya Sabha last year was providing a handle to the Seed Companies, he said it was against the Constitution. Stating that the farmers were on the roads due to the Land Acquisition Act enacted in 1994, he said the Act should be amended as the lands were being acquired as per the needs of people and it should be introduced in the coming monsoon session of Parliament.

Mr Gaikwad demanded that the Centre enact a separate Act for the rehabilitation of farmers, who lost their lands under Land Acquisition Act. He also demanded that the Centre allot special budget to the farming sector and sanction cultivation loans to the farmers at one per cent interest.
