Hyderabad: Demanding that the “Gram Panchayat” status be given to all “thandas” in the State before the elections to local bodies, the Lamabadi Hakkula Porata Samithi staged a dharna at Indira Park, here on Sunday.
The Samithi demanded that the State government earmark Rs 10,000 crores for the overall development of tribal hamlets in the State. They said that the State ST Commission should be constituted immediately to address the issues confronting the community. They also demanded that the State government immediately take steps fill all backlog posts remaining vacant over a long period. Alleging that the Integrated Tribal Development Authority has become a den of corruption, it urged the State government to take preventive measures to check the malady.
The Samithi also demanded that the State government increase the amount of scholarships and stipend for the students hailing from the tribal community. Referring to the Telangana State issue, it demanded that the Centre immediately table a Bill in Parliament in this regard.
The senior Congress leader, Dr K Keshav Rao, assured the Samithi that he would take up all the issues with the government and try to get them resolved. (NSS)
