Payyavula Keshav asks govt to step down honorably

Hyderabad: The TDP MLA, Mr Payyavula Keshav, on Saturday demanded that the State government honorably step down as it lost confidence of both the people of the State and the legislators.

Speaking at the Assembly media point, Mr Keshav said that a series of mistakes have taken place in the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. The Legislature Secretary has circulated bulletins to the members that the election of the Speaker would be conducted through secret ballot voting. But immediately after House met, a motion was adopted suspending clause (7) with voice vote for ‘open ballot’.

Moreover, the Pro-tem Speaker, Mr J C Diwakar Reddy, did not mention the name of Mr K E Krishnamurthy, who was the TDP candidate. The Pro-tem Speaker just mentioned the name of the ruling party candidate, Mr Nadendla Manohar, and took voice vote. The Protem Speaker has even announced the election of Mr Nadendla Manohar. When the TDP members registered protest and insisted for division of votes, the Pro-tem Speaker has taken up division of votes, he added.

“We have expected that no-confidence motion would be taken up after election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. But the Deputy Speaker, Mr Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka adjourned the House sine die even without mentioning the no confidence motion. His action was purely against the democratic spirit”.

Mr Keshav also charged the government with running away from no-confidence motion fearing defeat. The Kiran Kumar Reddy Government lost the confidence of the people as well as the MLAs. The government’s action indicated that it fell into minority, he felt. As per rules, the government should prove its majority on the floor of the House within 10 days after receipt of no-confidence motion, he pointed out.
