Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), on Saturday, complained to the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Mr Bhanwar Lal, against “utter violation of election code” by the candidates having ‘Ceiling Fan’ symbol in the Kadapa Lok Sabha Constituency and Pulivendula Legislative Assembly Constituency by-elections. It also complained that the election authorities concerned were not taking prompt remedial action.

A delegation of PCC leaders comprising PCC vice-president, Mr Madasu Gangadhar, PCC Official spokesperson, Mr B Kamalakar Rao, PCC Legal Cell Convenors and APCC Poll Control Room coordinators, Mr B Srinivas Goud and Mr G Rama Rao, met the CEO at his office in the Secretariat and lodged a complaint alleging that the candidates in those candidates with Ceiling Fan symbol were violating election code of conduct at will and the election officials concerned remained silent spectators.

The PCC leaders have stated that even the clear directives from the CEO and other higher-ups were being ignored by the election officials at the district and lower-levels. They pointed out that the official candidate of Congress Party in Kadapa Lok Sabha Constituency on May 6 submitted to the election officer in writing on the immediate necessity to stall unlawful activities on the premises of Nallingayappalli Building of Bharati Cements, Pulivendula building of Govindaraja Textiles, Idupulapaya Estate belonging to the candidates of Ceiling Fan poll symbol. But neither the election officials nor the police officials concerned failed to act on a specific complaint of the Congress nominee.

They also alleged that the local police officials have created havoc in connivance with the Sakshi TV Channel at the temporary residential place of key campaigner of Congress who was one of the EC approved campaigners of the Congress, Mr Kanna Laxminarayana. The local police finding nothing during their search on May 5 clearly reveals dubious intentions of the personnel on election duties.

No action was taken by the officials after the complaint was given, they lamented. They also alleged that the live TV shows were being telecast from 12.30 pm on May 7 on the flow of currency by the persons belonging to the candidate of ceiling fan symbol which is yet to attract the attention of the locally positioned election authorities.
