Anantapur: Contradicting the claims of the Satya Sai Central Trust, Penukonda Deputy Superintendent of Police Kolar Krishna on Monday said that the police suspected the role of a prominent member of the Trust in the transport of Rs 35.5 lakh from Puttaparthi to Karnataka state.
Talking to media persons here, the DSP stated that the police have clear evidence to prove that the money seized at the check post in Kodikonda belonged to Satya Sai Trust.
However, Mr Krishna added that so far, no member of the Satya Sai Central Trust has claimed the money.
Earlier on Sunday, Satya Sai Central Trust member RJ Ratnakar had stated that the Trust has no connection with the money and it had written proof that the money was part of donations for the construction of the Maha Samadhi for late Satya Sai Baba. “We have proof that 12 devotees had withdrawn the money from a bank on Saturday,” Mr Ratnakar said.
Meanwhile the Anantapur Court has remanded driver Harish Nanda to police custody till June 27.
The police said Mr Nanda was caught while carrying the Rs 35 lakh illegally on suspicion that the money belonged to Satya Sai Central Trust.(INN)
