Hyderabad: Seeking action against the YSR Congress Party Chief, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, for having misused the media for his ulterior motives and to club the media publicity expenses of this nature to their election expenses, the PCC lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer here on Monday.

The PCC vice-president, Mr Madasu Gangadhar, the general secretary and MLC, Mr Rudraraju Padmaraju, and the PCC general secretary and former MLC, Mr Gidugu Rudraraju, have alleged in a complaint that the political publicity given to the candidate in news channels owned by candidates was unethical and the media has to be fair and objective to all political as well as contesting candidates during the elections.

They alleged that election-eve publicity given by the media during the campaigning in Kadapa Parliamentary by-election to Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, in his news channels and others partially owned and controlled by him will not give a true picture about him and also has an advantage of not showing that expenditure in his election expenses account.

On the contrary, ever since the candidature of Dr D L Ravindra Reddy was announced by the Congress Party, the “Sakshi” print and visual media and other channels under the influence of Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy were defaming Dr D L Ravindra Reddy. These acts are prejudicing the prospects of Congress Party candidate in the election. These acts destroy the very essence of the democracy. The publicity given in his media and also other media to his candidature and that of his mother has to be necessarily included in the election expenses account. If that was not done, it amounts to violating the conduct of Election Rules 1961 framed by the Election Commission of India under the Representation of People’s Act 1951.

They also urged the Election Commission to permit the outside and neighbouring villagers as polling agents where the polling stations are volatile and no voter for that polling station are willing to act as election agents. (NSS)
