Besieged by allegations of mismanagement, members of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust plan to seek a meeting with chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy to clarify issues that have arisen following the death of Sai Baba. Speaking to TOI, V Srinivasan, a member of the trust and president of All India Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, said the trustees plan to seek a meeting soon after the submission of a report requested by the state government on the functioning of the trust. “The report is being compiled even as we speak and it will definitely be submitted on time,” he said. “We shall wait for until the government has scrutinized the report and then we intend to call on the government to clarify the issues.”

In the light of controversies that have mired the trust over the past couple of months, the trustees have also decided to henceforth publish a regular report on the income and other details of the trust that can be accessed by all. “The report will be published annually and the first report shall be released in November this year on the occasion of Baba’s birthday.”

This will be the first time that a public charity trust in India shall publish details of its income and financial transactions. “It’s done regularly by foundations in other countries, but I have not come across any public charity trust in India doing so,” he said. Srinivasan also maintained that the income of the trust is modest, amounting to Rs 120-130 crore annually. “We get Rs 25-30 crore annually in the form of donations and Rs 85 crore as interest from a corpus account,” he said. “This sum alone is used to run our hospitals, schools and other institutions. For the hospitals alone, we need about Rs 50 crore” The trust run five health care facilities including two super speciality hospitals and two general hospitals where free treatment is provided. TOI
