SCR conduct anti-littering checks, penalize 9,720 persons

TrainSouth Central Railway (SCR) conducted anti-littering checks and 9,720 persons were detected and penalized for violating the guidelines on maintaining cleanliness in Railway premises and yield Rs 19.8 lakh during the month of May, 2013.

The Indian Railways (penalties for activities affecting cleanliness at Railway premises) rules, which came into effect from November, 2012, authorized the Railway administration to penalize any person/passenger who was found either littering or spitting or urinating or defecating or pasting posters or dumping garbage on railway premises such as stations, trains with a penalty upto Rs 500.

These provisions were being vigorously implemented on all the six Divisions of SCR by Station Masters, Ticket Collectors and other railway officials who were authorized to detect and penalize the offenders.

Since the introduction of the anti-littering rules in November, 2012, till the end of May, 2013, 11,000 persons were detected for violating the provisions of the rules and an amount of Rs 23 lakh was realized from them towards penalty, a release from SCR said here today.
