Visakhapatnam: The Seemandhra activists under the leadership of poet and lyricist Vangapandu Prasad Rao staged a rally demanding a separate railway zone based at Visakhapatnam, with Waltair Division of East Coast Railway as its hub.

Raising slogans against neglecting the Waltair Division, the activists alleged of injustice with the three north coastal districts though the Waltair Division contributes Rs 3,500 crore annually to the East Coast Railway, second highest revenue earning division in the country.

The activists conducted Vanta Varpu (Cooking food at road side) at Divisional Railway manager Office pressing for separate railway zone in Visakhapatnam.

Vangapandu Prasad Rao warned of intensifying the agitation if the demand is not accepted.

“A better way of giving importance, to development of railway facilities in north-coastal Andhra Pradesh, is to bifurcate Waltair Division and to merge the zone with South Central Railway,” he opined.
