Hyderabad: The ruling Congress party would sweep the ensuing local body elections in Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies, said the Handlooms and Textiles Minister, Dr P Shankar Rao. He added that the recent Kadapa bye-elections were fought between the families of factionists, but not between political parties.
Speaking to mediapersons at the CLP office here on Wednesday, Dr Shankar Rao said that there was no need to worry about the Congress debacle in Kadapa bye-elections. Dubbing the YSR Congress Party as party of no consequence, he exhorted the Congress cadre not to get demoralized on the results of Kadapa bye-elections. He said that even the former Prime Minister late P V Narasimha Rao registered a record victory at Nandyal though he was not a son of the soil. He asked the party leaders not to worry about the YSR Congress Party Chief, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s win though he created a record. He said the late chief minister, Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had ruthlessly suppressed the leaders like Mr Rajamohan Reddy, Mr Madan Mohan Reddy and Mr M V Mysoora Reddy with faction mentality.
Questioning how it was possible to defeat Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy when the ministers had signed a memorandum to make Mr Jagan as chief minister after the demise of Dr YSR, he said that sympathy factor worked in favor of Mr Jagan. Urging the Chief Minister to postpone the local body elections for six months, he said that he would prove that the party would have a clean sweep in the local body elections. Dr Shankar Rao addressed a letter to the AICC Chief, Ms Sonia Gandhi, in this regard. (NSS)
