Hyderabad: The Telangana activists here on Thursday burnt an effigy of the Congress MP from Vijayawada, Mr Lagadapati Rajagopal, at the Shadan College in the busy Khairatabad area on Thursday morning and caused a traffic jam.

The activists took out a rally and brought the effigy in a funeral procession to Khairatabad causing traffic jam at peak hour.

The agitators were angry that Mr Rajagopal was opposed to creation of Telangana. They condemned the Seemandhra MPs for distributing pamphlets opposing bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Dismissing the argument of the Seemandhra MPs that if Telangana was conceded the demand for 24 more States would come up, they argued that there would be development only in smaller States. They also alleged that Mr Lagadapati was anti-Telangana. They also said that the MP was opposing Telangana to safeguard his properties in Hyderabad.

Demanding that the Centre should immediately declare Telangana, they warned that the Congress party would be buried if it failed to carve out Telangana State. (NSS)
