Visakhapatnam, Feb.20 (NSS): Padmashri Dr Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad on Sunday expressed grave concern over Telugu language, listed as one of the several ancient languages all over the world, is on the verge of extinction.
Dr Lakshmi Prasad said here that there was need for the State government to wake up and remain alert over the “Telugu extinction” issue which came to light in a United Nations sponsored survey. He also strongly felt that Andhra Pradesh government should take immediate and concrete measures to protect the native language since the State came into existence on the basis of language.
Appealing to the parents to come out of the unhealthy influence of western culture, Dr Lakshmi Prasad also demanded the State government to make Telugu as a compulsory subject in the schools and colleges and protect it from extinction. (NSS)
