Mahabubnagar, February 4: Tension gripped Sunkarapalli village under Madugula mandal of Mahbubnagar district on Friday morning when a youth doused himself with kerosene and attempted to set ablaze demanding the authorities not to conduct Rachchabanda programme. With this, the police intervened and gave a sound thrashing to the boy causing grievous injuries. The youth has been admitted to a hospital.

Enraged over the police action, the villagers took to the streets and entered into heated arguments with the khaki-clad. The villagers and the police pushed each other. When the police personnel resorted to lathi-charge, the protestors set a police vehicle ablaze and damaged several other vehicles. However, the policemen chased the agitators and beat them severely.

Meanwhile in the Tharoor village in Ranga Reddy district, the villagers set the Rachchabanda tent afire. With this, the local MLA, Mr Prasad, who visited the spot to participate in the programme went away silently. (NSS)
