Hyderabad: Reports suggest that former glamour star and MP Jayaprada will be joining the YSR Congress party led by rebel Congress leader and son of late Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy soon.
Jayaprada has been expelled from the Samajwadi party along with his mentor Amar Singh and has been looking for an opening in another party. She has already represented the TDP in Rajya Sabha and came out of it because of differences with its chief Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu. She cannot go back there. She is believed to have thought of joining the Congress; but that party itself is not in a strong position in Andhra Pradesh, her native state, because of the split in the party.
Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy who has resigned to the Congress party, is now heading a sizeable section of the top Congress leaders and his party – the YSR Congress –is now turning out to be a strong force. So the natural alternative for Jayaprada, if she wants to be in Parliament again, is Jagan’s party, say political analysts.
Jayaprada has been away from Andhra Pradesh politics and she was elected to the Parliament from Uttar Pradesh. She said on Sunday when she visited Tirupati temple that she longed to contest from AP and wanted to redeem her debt to the people of the state. She said if God willing, she would contest from her home state in the next elections. If that is so, which party would she represent is the question. Though she might get a chance to represent Congress, she may not prefer it as the ruling party itself is in a bad shape presently. So the only alternative for her is the YSR Congress, say political analysts. (NSS)
