Khammam: The Wyra police circle inspector, Mr Venkat Rao, on Tuesday landed in a controversy while dealing with the agitators, who participated in Rail Roko stir.

The circle inspector allegedly manhandled and misbehaved with a Mahila Sangham leader, Ms Sireesha, while she was trying to stop a goods train at Wyra bridge near Madhira. It was alleged that the CI, instead of deploying women constables, he himself caught the lady’s hand and dragged her away from the track. The CI landed in the controversy with various TV channels shooting and telecasting the scenes of Mr Venkat Rao physically dragging away the women leader when she refused to come back from the railway track. Protesting the CI’s action, Ms Sireesha reportedly slapped him. The incident followed heated arguments between the police and the agitators. Later, she was arrested on the charge of assaulting a police officer on duty.

Meanwhile, on coming to know about the incident, the TRS supremo, Mr K Chandrasekhara Rao, has demanded that the government take action against the erring circle inspector.

Giving an explanation, the Circle Inspector said that he had no evil intention in forcibly taking away the lady from the railway track. As she was threatening to commit suicide on the track, he was forced to touch the lady and bring her away by force and landed in the controversy. He also complained that Ms Sireesha slapped him instantly.

Earlier, the agitators stopped a goods train and squatted on the tracks for several hours and raised pro-Telangana slogans. Heated argument followed when police attempted to remove two women sitting on the tracks. (NSS)
