Hyderabad: The Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was informed by the officials that Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) through Civil Supplies Department so far procured a record 19 lakh Metric tonnes of food grains from the farmers.
This is for the first time in the country that such a record procurement was achieved by the IKP groups.
The Chief Minister directed the officials that arrears towards the payment for procurement from the farmers should be released within three or four days at a meeting held on Tuesday morning with the CMO officials.
He also directed the top officials, district Collectors and officials of the Civil Supplies Department that food-grains stored temporarily at government school buildings here and there should be immediately shifted.
So far millers and government departments together procured 75 lakh M. tonnes of food-grains in the rabi and out of this, 25 to 30 per cent were procured by Government departments and paid Rs 1,200 crore to farmers.
This sort of high procurement was done by the Government to ensure that farmers get the Minimum Support Price.
Officials explained that till now, government departments used to procure only 5 to 6 lakh Metric tonnes and only this time these departments procured a record 19 lakh M tonnes from the farmers. They said procurement from the farmers will continue for the next 10 to 15 days.(INN)
