Mumbai, March 24 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Thursday was ruling moderately higher with gains seen in realty, capital goods and IT stocks.
The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,286.42 points, was ruling at 18,339.43 points, up 133.27 points or 0.73 percent from its previous close at 18,206.16 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was trading 0.64 percent higher at 5,515.25 points.
Broader markets were also in the positive. The BSE midcap index was trading 0.75 percent up, while the BSE smallcap was up 0.92 percent.
Most of the sectors saw buying support, but weakness was seen in energy stocks.
Among major gainers on the Sensex, at this time were Hindalco, BHEL, TCS and M&M, while the losers included Maruti Suzuki, Reliance Infra, Bajaj Auto and HDFC.
Other Asian markets were trading mixed.
The Japanese Nikkei average closed marginally in the red at 9,435.01 points, down 0.15 percent.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng advanced 0.81 percent to trade at 23,009.5 points, while China’s Shanghai Composite was ruling 0.14 percent lower at 2,944.28 points.
