Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews will miss the Indian Premier League after he was ruled out of action for eight weeks with a side strain.
The 23-year-old picked up the right-side strain during the semi-final win over New Zealand and was forced to miss Saturday’s six-wicket World Cup final defeat against India.
“I have pulled a muscle,” he told reporters in Colombo after the Sri Lankan team arrived home.
“I am finding it difficult to walk, it will take about eight weeks to heal.”
The injury means Mathews will sit out the fourth edition of the IPL which kicks off on April 8 in Chennai.
The all-rounder, who previously played for the Kolkata Knight Riders, was due to play for new franchise Pune Warriors after he was bought for $950,000. Cricket365
